Be Brave Debbie...

Well, Toni (my fabulous friend) is always telling me of the treasures she finds at this op shop and that.  I am NOT an op shopper!  I just have no idea where to start, how to look etc. etc.  SO, tomorrow I am being brave and Toni is taking me op shopping.  I wonder if I will find any goodies?  I wonder if I will be converted?  I see what other people find and I like...but do I have the knack of finding treasures too?  We'll see...

Also, my rhubarb, pear and raspberry crumble was horrible!  It was not sweet at all so I ask.  Does the rhubarb have to be red?  Mine was mainly green, is that why it was horrible?  If you know, please let me know.

Oh, and today was a gorgeous day so we headed to the park for a play and a BBQ with Toni and Kristie and kids.  Thanks girls, I had a great day...it's always fun to catch up.

I'll be back with my op shopping update tomorrow!

  1. Deb,

I am sure you will learn to love shopping at the op shop! You never know what treasure you will find....just don't get too hung up on how things look right now but think how they will look when you have added your personal touch to them.

As for the rhubarb....it is ok to use when it is green or red...but it is not an overly sweet fruit...which is why it is usually combined with apples and my mum always add sugar. I can ask my mum to write out how she cooks the apple and rhubarb if you need a different recipe.

  2. Thanks Peta. I would love the recipe. We have 2 rhubarb plants and I have no idea what to do with them. I did add it to pear and I added sugar as the recipe said but it was still yuk and it looked horrible too!

I am hoping I find some goodness tomorrow, I know a couple of things I am on the look out for.

  4. I went to busy fingers (op shop on Bribie) yesterday, on the look out for a single bed for Declan as Liam has actually broken a few beds by jumping on them in his tantrums. I picked one up for $15 and Declan slept in it all night!!!!! That's amazing for him. Mind you I am paying him 50c if he stays in his bed and not mine. Have fun!

  5. Rhubarb has to be a rich red to cook. Use only the stem as the leaves are poisonous so don't feed them to animals.
