Little Sideklick Week 3...

We were super behind in our photo taking for Little Sideklick this last week.  We actually had a week break before the next chapter and it is a good job we did because I needed it to catch up!

I found this week really hard to get a grasp on.  It tackled shutter speed and aperture, both manual settings we had to use and I just find them hard to get in my head.  So to make it easier for me and the kids (after I read the instructions over and over) we focused on aperture which I find a bit easier to understand.  Also the theme was watch and peek.  We all took photos of very similar things.  I took mine during the day while the kids were at school and they took theirs in the afternoon.

A single bloom in my orchard

Nathan took this one at the neighbours yard

Emma's was from our front garden.(I couldn't work out how to set Emma's little point and shoot camera onto a manual setting for aperture so her photo is shot in auto)

We talked a lot this week about depth of field.  I think we all captured it to different extents.  Emma has amazed me with her photography, when she is out taking photos she talks about all the things we have tackled so far, about the rule of thirds and framing your shot etc, it is nice to see she is taking it all in.

I'm not sure what our next chapter is...we'll have to wait and see.

Little Sideklick Lesson 2...

We were a bit behind on our photos this week.  Sunday got away from us big time so we had to take our shots today.  Better late than never I say!

Anyway this week we had to think about the rule of thirds in photography and how you can frame objects and the theme was 'Important to me now'.

Here is Nathan's photo for this week.  He really wanted to represent responsibility.  Showing that he is responsible is really important to Nathan right now and he is working really hard to achieve goals around this.  He chose his saxophone to photograph because he has to show responsibility and commitment to his instrument.

I wanted to take a photo that represented my need to focus on me (well not to forget me really) and to remember to take a break sometimes and put my feet up and recoup after running around all day.

And lastly, Emma took a photo of her friend Rose.  Rose is really special to Emma.  She travels everywhere with us and so Emma chose her.  I have to say that Emma did really well with her rule of thirds and I really like her photo.  I put the grid on the camera for her so that helped her out.

We are all enjoying this challenge together.

A New Project...

I'm always looking for new projects to complete and when I read about one that would be perfect for Nathan and I to do together I quickly jumped on board.

We are just about to begin a 16 week photography project/course together.  It is called Little Side Klick and it is specifically designed for parents to complete with their junior photographers.  Each week we will be given a task/assignment to complete and then upload our favourite photo to the gallery.  At the end of the course we will receive a photo book of all our pictures.

This is a completely new course and they have had a few bumps this week getting it up and running but  Nathan and I have printed off our PDF instructions for this week so we can get to it on the weekend.

If you would like any info about the course you can read about it HERE.

You also get the first 3 weeks for free and then I am sure it is $8 a week (with a 15% discount if you pay upfront) for the rest of the weeks including your photo book etc.  The good thing about that is if you sign up and then decide it is not for you then you don't lose your hard earned dollars!

I think I'll post about our progress on here although I don't promise anything...we all know what my blogging is like lately!

A bit of everything

I haven't taken any photos since I went to N.S.W so I am using an old one of Emma today and I took Suzanne's link on her blog and went to Be Funky and made it into a cartoon. Thanks Suzanne for the great link. I was going to do more but Explorer keeps closing on me and my patience with it is now done.

Today I went to C & K at Caboolture and set up our display. It looks good. I also got a few things crossed off my holiday list so that made me happy too.

I :
  • organised the mail to be held by Australia Post
  • bought Emma new shoes that she needed
  • bought Nathan new swim shorts, some shirts and a new rashie (now I have a much lighter wallet!)
  • bought sunscreen and zinc
  • bought dog and bird food for while we are away
  • bought lollies for chewing on the plane

And also did some un-holiday related jobs too.. bought Dad's Fathers Day present, bought some new bags for the market stall to carry all our stuff in, and went and signed our tax. We also had Emma's prep interview that went really well, she did a great job of sharing her colours, shapes, numbers, writing her name and drawing a picture of us all.

I have a huge list of things to do tomorrow too, but it must start with gym.

Have a fabulous Tuesday!

Just sharing a few of the photos that I took of Kobi while away. I really love the one of him looking at the soccer ball and him and Emma watching the match, clapping the boys.

Have a great Friday evening!

Sunday

Today was another good day for getting a few things done around here. We went and bought some plants this morning and planted our triangle garden (on our driveway) with some flowers. They look nice, lets just hope they survive, I haven't had much luck with that little garden so far.

We also planted a row of strawberry plants in our vegetable garden. All the veges from last week are still OK so that is a good start there. We don't know if we have planted our strawberries in time to get fruit this season but we will see.

As always I had the camera out and about with me today, below is a photo I just like of our Lemongrass (which smells divine in the vege garden). Just thought I would share it.

And of course I couldn't be down at the paddock without some photos of our new baby cow. She is still so cute, and it is hard to think that she is only 5 days old.

The day finished off with watering in our new plants, the kids playing so nicely together in the sandpit and me baking some really delicious scones to use up the buttermilk I had in the fridge.
Hope you had a great Sunday too! Lucky all us teachers, back to work tomorrow!

I took this photo as well as my header last weekend. I really love this one, it is the wrong orientation however to use as my header but I still wanted to share it with everyone.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Just sharing a photo...

Monday, June 22, 2009

I sat up last night and had a bit of a play with my photo editing software. The photo below is one that I really love of Emma writing her name in the sand. So I edited it in 3 different ways and posted them below.

I was also super excited yesterday afternoon when I was checking out some blogs to read on
Melissa Goodsell's blog that I had won her giveaway. Can't wait for that one to get here, it is a new magazine thats out. I'll share when it gets here.

More photos to share

Just thought I would share a few more photos from our weekend. You have probably guessed that Emma was happy being my photography guinnea pig this time!
Still waiting for someone to read my blog and leave a giveaway comment!

What the?

A quick story from tonight... Anthony had to work tonight so before he goes to night shift he always makes himself a cup of coffee to take. I was just about to pour my hot water into my hot chocolate tonight when the phone rang. It was Anthony to tell me to check the kettle out because he had tried to make his coffee twice before leaving and each time to milk curdled. So I did. The water in the kettle was a shade of green and had a lime smell to it. Immediately Anthony says that the kids have touched it. We thought with lime cordial. See we have had a dirty kettle and I keep forgetting to buy stuff to clean it when we are out. When I looked in the kettle again I realised it was spotless where the green water had been. So off I went to find Nathan. Yep it was him, he had put lemon juice in the water! I actually didn't ask him why but I was happy because it was nothing toxic and Nathan had cleaned the kettle! Now I know what to use.

On a different note, today we went over to Morgan's Seafoods for lunch and we met Hazel for the first time. We had a really nice lunch (as always at Morgan's) and good company. Here are a few photos from the day. Nathan was not cooperating at all for photos so forgive any he is in!

I have some other photos I will share next time. I won't be posting any creations this week as I am now writing report cards and getting ready for Tracey to visit from N.S.W so we can go with Toni to the Scrapbook Convention for the weekend. WAHOOO!
I also did my photography course yesterday. WOW it was fantastic I would recommend it to anyone. All the information is still swimming in my head. I want to do lots of practise before our next holiday, the travel and landscape part of the course was quite complicated! I think I will have to go back to that one again. In fact I think I will go back to both again after some practise to see if I pick up something different with more knowledge. You can find information about the course I did here.
Have a great week everyone!
